Children’s books will be a common sight at the upcoming L.A. Times Festival of Books. Many will expect them to cover the usual topics of basic math, reading, and writing. There are also some books that teach a trickier topic yet are also remarkably relevant and educational. Having taught for over fifteen years, Borchini is very familiar with the challenges of kids coming from all over the world. Yet, no matter where they come from, they can find help through innovative teaching tools.
Hence, he presents this reality in his children’s book “Three Stories About Jonathan, the Computer, and Little Kitty” as well as several ideas on how this could work in today’s classroom environment. On the side, the book would also make a good “read-aloud” to children by some adult either parent or teacher.
The children’s book follows 8-year-old Jonathan, who is having trouble in a variety of subjects. In fact, he even has trouble in computer class despite how much he loves going there. A lot of it has to do with him being unable to remember every new lesson he receives.
The good news though is that he has a very special friend: his cat. It turns out Little Kitty knows just the kind of help to give Jonathan to get the job done.

Ernest Borchini was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, but now resides in Northern Virginia just outside of Washington, DC. Years ago he taught English to both children and adults in Japan, China, and Ukraine. For the past 15+ years, he has taught in elementary schools where he teaches kids just like the characters from the story: Jonathan, Sheila, and Darius, every day. It was they who gave him the inspiration to write this book.
