IKEA Welcomes Newest Addition to the Plant-Based Food Family, the IKEA Plant Dog
The Plant Dog has the same snap and taste as the iconic hot dog and will be sampled at in-store launch events across the country on Thursday, April 11
IKEA U.S. welcomes the IKEA Plant Dog, a new plant-based and vegan version of the popular meat-based hot dog, to the IKEA food family. The IKEA hot dog has been savored by shoppers for over 40 years. Expanding the plant-based menu marks the continuation of efforts by IKEA to offer more plant-based options at an affordable price.
“IKEA is driven by a vision to create a better everyday life for many people. Through our food business, we can contribute to this by offering more plant-based alternatives with a lower climate impact compared to animal-based options,” says Helene von Reis, Food Manager at IKEA of Sweden.
During the creation of the Plant Dog, the IKEA team overcame the challenge of creating a plant-based hot dog with the same look, texture, taste, and memorable snap similar to the iconic IKEA hot dog. The Plant Dog is made with rice protein, onion, apple, salt, pepper, and a smokiness that gives it a balanced taste and characteristic sausage flavor.
“We’re excited to launch the Plant Dog in the U.S. We know that our hot dogs are beloved by many and we’re proud to expand our plant-based foods for customers. Our ambition is to make healthier and more sustainable eating easy, desirable and affordable, without compromising on taste,” said Paul Fite, Country Food Manager, IKEA U.S.
The IKEA Plant Dog is now available at the IKEA Bistro in stores across the United States for $0.70. Additionally, IKEA is pleased to announce a New Lower Price for the Veggie Dog, now $0.65, and the hot dog, now $0.75. IKEA is committed to offering plant-based foods at the same or lower price than the meat-based alternatives in effort to make them more affordable and accessible to the many.
IKEA U.S. will be celebrating this new food offering joining the plant-based food family with a Plant Dog Baby Shower themed event at all IKEA U.S. stores on Thursday, April 11th from 4 - 8 pm. This in-store event will take place at the IKEA Bistro and give customers the opportunity to taste the new Plant Dog, play games and more! Customers are encouraged to check their local store page for additional details.
In addition to the Plant Dog, IKEA offers a variety of vegetarian and plant-based options including Plant Balls, Veggie Dogs and Strawberry soft ice. Visit IKEA-USA.com to learn more.
