"Wasted," the inaugural cinematic short film from Stellantis, triumphs at the Film Impresa Festival
- “Wasted,” a short film produced by Stellantis in partnership with the Giffoni Innovation Hub, takes home the Best Business Film Award at the Film Impresa Festival in Rome.
- Now, in its second year, the festival spotlights films delving into the corporate world, offering inspiration and emotional resonance.
- Chaired by Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores, the jury lauded “Wasted” for its emphasis on environmental preservation and resource recycling, along with its inventive and compelling storytelling.
“Wasted,” the first short film ever produced by Stellantis in collaboration with the Giffoni Innovation Hub, has won the Best Company Film Award - Narrative section at the second edition of the Film Impresa Festival held at the Casa del Cinema in Villa Borghese, Rome.
The jury, led by Oscar-winning director Gabriele Salvatores, emphasized the importance of the themes addressed by “Wasted” (environmental protection and reuse of recovered materials), as well as its originality and effectiveness in delivering the message.
Film Impresa Festival, a project by Unindustria aimed at celebrating and showcasing companies and their workers, awarded the best short films, shorts, and documentaries about Italian industry in its annual event. The jury recognized in “Wasted” the right balance between the significance of the underlying message (environmental protection), originality, and the strength of its delivery.
The storyline of “Wasted” is both unusual and straightforward: set at sea, it follows a young castaway who lands on Trashipelago, an island made entirely of floating waste and inhabited by an elderly sailor surviving by reusing materials washed into the water. Initially hesitant, the young man learns from the elder’s experience that even those materials can be useful through creative thinking, contributing to communal life until he no longer relies on the elder’s assistance, who mysteriously disappears.
Premiering at the Giffoni Film Festival with direction by Tobia Passigato, “Wasted” (15 minutes long) has been recognized for its focus on the “second life” of recovered materials, addressing today’s relevant issue of environmental protection through material recovery and waste reduction.
These themes are foundational to the Circular Economy model recently launched by Stellantis, promoting an economic model where resources and products are maximized in their usage and reintroduced into the market or production flow. As an alternative to the “use and throw away” culture, it requires ingenuity, creativity, and a crucial shift in mindset. For Stellantis, this mindset shift is primarily targeted at the youth, to whom “Wasted” is primarily addressed.
